Apple Enhances Logic Pro with AI-Powered Stem Splitter and Flashback Capture
Apple has introduced substantial upgrades to Logic Pro, its professional audio production software, with the release of version 11.2 for Mac and 2.2 for iPad on May 28, 2025. These updates focus on enhancing music production, incorporating AI-driven tools to streamline beat-making and creative workflows.
One of the key improvements is the upgraded Stem Splitter, which now delivers higher audio fidelity and the ability to separate guitar and piano tracks from a single recording. This AI-powered feature, available on devices with an Apple M1 chip or later, enables users to isolate vocals, create instrumental versions, and export submixes with greater precision. Rather than replacing artists, Apple’s approach integrates AI to support and enhance creativity.
Another noteworthy addition is Flashback Capture, designed to recover MIDI and audio performances even when recording wasn’t initiated. This feature ensures spontaneous ideas are preserved, providing a practical solution for musicians seeking to capture unexpected inspiration.
The update also introduces new Sound Packs: “Dancefloor Rush” brings drum-and-bass sounds to both Mac and iPad, while Mac users gain access to “Magnetic Imperfections” for analog tape textures and the “Tosin Abasi” pack for progressive metal guitar tones. On iPad, the Learn MIDI tool simplifies the assignment of physical MIDI controller knobs and faders to software parameters. Mac users benefit from an improved Notepad with AI-driven Writing Tools (powered by Apple Intelligence in beta) for lyric writing, along with a new Search and Select function for more efficient navigation in large projects.
These enhancements make advanced music production tools more accessible, allowing musicians to work intuitively while benefiting from AI-assisted features. The reliance on M-series chips for certain capabilities reinforces Apple’s seamless hardware-software integration, encouraging users to adopt newer devices to access the latest technology.
