Google Chrome Launches AI Skills to Automate Browser Tasks

Google released a new feature called Skills in Chrome on April 14, 2026, which enables users to convert their Gemini AI prompts into one-click automated workflows. This update allows desktop users to save specific AI interactions as reusable Chrome AI Skills that can be triggered via a simple command across one or multiple browser tabs.

The functionality is housed within the Gemini side panel of the browser. Users can browse their chat history, select a successful prompt, and store it in a dedicated library for future use. Streamlining Research with Chrome AI Skills

One of the primary advantages of this system is its ability to operate across multiple tabs simultaneously. Google demonstrated that a single Chrome AI Skills workflow, such as a "Compare Specs" tool, can pull data from three different product pages at once to create a comparison table. This multi-tab execution is designed to reduce the manual effort required for deep research and data extraction.

The launch includes more than 50 pre-configured templates for various consumer tasks, including nutrition calculations and academic research. Because these Chrome AI Skills are linked to a user's signed-in profile, they automatically sync across all desktop installations of the browser. As of April 15, 2026, the feature is rolling out to English-speaking users in the United States.
