Nintendo Confirms Ocarina of Time Remake for Switch 2 Launch Window
Nintendo has announced a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for its upcoming next-generation console, the Switch 2. Revealed during a recent Nintendo Direct, the project moves beyond a simple high-definition remaster to offer completely modernized graphics built for the new hardware. The title is scheduled to arrive within the launch year of the platform in 2026.
The Ocarina of Time remake is part of a broader software lineup intended to bolster the early lifecycle of the Switch 2. Unlike the previous 3DS version, which focused on stereoscopic effects and minor texture updates, this new version aims for a visual overhaul that utilizes the increased processing power of the successor console. Fans can expect the classic N64 adventure to be rebuilt with contemporary lighting, textures, and character models.
Launch Window and Major Third-Party Support
Nintendo confirmed that the Ocarina of Time remake will be joined by several high-profile titles during the console's first year. Kingdom Hearts IV is set to be a launch title for the Switch 2, marking a significant partnership with Square Enix. The company also announced that Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will bring 12 different sports, including skateboarding, to the new system on October 22, 2026.
The Xenoblade series is also seeing a major expansion on the new hardware. Nintendo plans to release enhanced editions of the original Xenoblade trilogy throughout 2026, followed by a brand-new entry titled Xenoblade Genesis in 2027. For fans of indie titles, Deltarune Chapter 5 is slated for a June 24, 2026, release.
Existing owners of certain titles will also see immediate benefits on the new platform. Unrailed 2: Back on Track offers a free upgrade from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 edition. Meanwhile, Sea of Stars and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster are now available as standalone purchases for the next-generation hardware as of June 11, 2026.
