OpenAI Opens ChatGPT Health to All US Adults with Apple Health and Medical Record Integration
OpenAI has expanded access to ChatGPT Health, its AI-powered feature that lets users connect personal wellness data and medical records directly into conversations with the chatbot. The tool is now available to every U.S. resident aged 18 and older across all plan tiers, including the free tier, Go, Plus, and Pro, on both web and iOS platforms.
The feature launched broadly on July 23, 2026, following a limited beta pilot that began in January. Users can link their Apple Health data as well as electronic health records from major hospital systems such as Epic and Oracle Health. The integration also extends to One Medical and Function Health, giving ChatGPT Health access to lab results, medication lists, sleep and activity trends, and recent healthcare visit notes.
OpenAI has partnered with b.well Connected Health to aggregate electronic health records, a setup covering over 2.2 million healthcare providers across the United States. The company says it designed the experience to sit directly inside standard ChatGPT conversations rather than requiring users to move to a separate health-dedicated space.
Privacy and Data Controls in ChatGPT Health
OpenAI has stated that health data and any conversations involving that data are excluded from training its foundation models. The company also confirmed that this information is not used for advertising purposes. Users must grant permission before ChatGPT can access any connected records, and they can disconnect accounts or delete synced data at any time through their settings.
To evaluate the feature's safety and accuracy before the wider launch, OpenAI worked with physicians who assessed the model's performance on health-related queries. The company also pointed to strong results on the HealthBench benchmark, a test designed to measure how well AI handles medical questions.
Platform Availability and Regional Limits for ChatGPT Health
The service works across web browsers and the iOS app. Android support is listed as coming soon. ChatGPT Health is not available in European Economic Area countries, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, which OpenAI has attributed to restrictions under the European Union's AI Act.
Why This Matters
The move places a consumer AI tool directly inside personal health data workflows at a scale that reaches millions of users. For anyone managing chronic conditions, tracking fitness trends, or trying to understand lab results, having an AI assistant that can read and contextualize that information could change how people interact with their own health records. The privacy guarantees around training data exclusion are a meaningful step, though the long-term trust in the system will depend on how transparently OpenAI handles those commitments as the feature evolves.
