SAP and Uhlmann Launch Industrial Digital Twins Platform
SAP SE and machine manufacturer Uhlmann Pac-Systeme have introduced PacXplorer, a packaging machine demonstrator for industrial digital twins. According to company statements at Hannover Messe 2026, the platform serves as a live demonstrator for the "Factory-X" project. This project is a core component of the German Manufacturing-X initiative. The system integrates digital models with SAP Business AI to establish a secure, decentralized data ecosystem for the capital goods industry.
The PacXplorer functions as both a production unit and a development platform. It leverages SAP Business AI to power service models such as predictive maintenance and AI-supported spare parts management. This integration allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), operators, and certification bodies to engage in sovereign data exchange. The system aims to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while ensuring sensitive information remains secure.
Factory-X and Data Standardization
As a lighthouse project within the Factory-X framework, the PacXplorer addresses the need for interoperable data standards across the manufacturing value chain. The architecture allows data sharing without compromising intellectual property. This application of industrial digital twins enables companies to build resilient supply chains by providing a unified view of machine performance across organizational boundaries.
Following its debut at Hannover Messe, the PacXplorer will move to a permanent installation at the SAP S.Factory in Walldorf. It will serve as a testbed for future industrial software applications. The collaboration represents a shift toward data-driven service models that prioritize long-term asset value and cross-company collaboration over siloed manufacturing processes.
