WeChat Integrates A2A Assistant with Huawei and Xiaomi for OS-Level AI Control
Tencent is collaborating with major smartphone manufacturers to integrate a new A2A assistant capability into WeChat, allowing users to control the messaging app through their phone's native voice assistant. The partnership includes industry giants Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, OPPO, and vivo, aiming to bridge the gap between hardware-level AI and the popular social platform.
The new feature relies on an Agent-to-Agent (A2A) mechanism that enables a smartphone's built-in AI to interact directly with WeChat. According to details from Tencent customer service, users will soon be able to send messages or initiate voice and video calls to specific contacts by simply speaking to their device. To ensure privacy, the system uses a dual-authorization process for data security before any cross-app communication occurs.
How the A2A Assistant Changes WeChat
This integration is a shift in how users interact with the "super-app" ecosystem. Instead of manually opening WeChat to find a contact, the A2A assistant allows the operating system's AI to handle the task. Tencent is also testing a native AI agent prototype designed to help users complete various internal tasks within the app, further expanding its automation capabilities.
The market response to these developments has been significant, with Tencent's valuation rising by approximately $53 billion following reports of the AI agent testing. The company is currently working toward regulatory clearance, which could arrive as early as June 2026. While a prototype is already in testing, the final rollout is expected to be phased, beginning with limited external trials before a wider release to the general public.
For consumers using devices from the partner brands, this update means WeChat will become more deeply embedded into the phone's software. The ability to trigger complex app actions via voice commands provides a more hands-free experience, particularly for communication tasks that previously required multiple taps. Tencent has not yet confirmed a specific date for the full public launch of the A2A features.
