Xpeng Debuts GX Electric SUV and Physical AI Vision at Beijing Auto Show

Physical AI

Xpeng has officially introduced the GX, its largest electric SUV to date, during the Auto China 2026 event in Beijing. This new six-seater vehicle serves as the flagship for the company's latest hardware and software integration, marking a significant step in the manufacturer's expansion of its premium EV lineup.

The Xpeng GX is built around the company's proprietary Turing AI chips, which are designed to handle the massive computational requirements of modern autonomous driving. Beyond its role as a family vehicle, the manufacturer stated this week that the GX is engineered with future Robotaxi capabilities in mind, allowing the vehicle to eventually operate within self-driving fleets.

During the presentation, CEO He Xiaopeng detailed a strategic pivot toward what the company calls Physical AI. This vision extends the application of artificial intelligence beyond digital screens and into tangible hardware, including smart electric vehicles, the Iron humanoid robot, and flying car concepts. The goal is to create a unified ecosystem where AI interacts directly with the physical world to assist users in various daily tasks.

To support this Physical AI initiative, the automaker demonstrated its VLA 2.0 AI model for autonomous navigation. In live tests conducted in Beijing, the system successfully managed complex urban environments, including merging into heavy traffic and navigating narrow residential streets. This software update is intended to provide a more human-like driving experience by better predicting the movements of other road users.

The display at Auto China 2026 also featured other recent additions to the brand's portfolio, such as the Mona M03, the P7 fastback, and the X9 multi-purpose vehicle. By showcasing these products alongside humanoid robotics, the company is positioning itself as a broad technology firm rather than a traditional car manufacturer.
